We understand that buying and selling property can sometimes be a very stressful and confusing experience especially if you are looking to buy property overseas. France has a very different property buying process which is actually far more straightforward than in the UK (see our Buying in France section) Assets will help guide you through this process and aim to make it as stress free as possible.
French property in the Dordogne, Charente and Limousin has undoubtedly
moved upwards in price over recent years and the increasing number of
budget airline routes into the local airports has certainly raised the
appeal of the area however relative to average British house prices
buying a house in south west France still offers great value for money.
It is quite possible to pick up renovation projects from under 24,000€
and the south Charente and Limousin areas are still comparatively much
cheaper to buy a house in than buying property in the traditionally
more popular areas around Bergerac, Belves, Monpazier, La Bugue, Sarlat,
Beaulieu-sur-Dordogne and the bastide towns across the southern Dordogne
. However with new budget airline routes to airports including Limoges
(Limousin) and as of spring 2008 Angouleme (Charente)
come excellent opportunities to purchase property north of the beautiful
medieval city of Perigueux in the less expensive areas
of north Dordogne, South Charente, Haute Vienne (Limousin) and the beautiful
Perigord-Limousin National Park area including delightful
castle and market towns such as Nontron, La Rochefaucauld, Nontron,
Piegut, Riberac, Villebois La Vallette.
According to currency specialists HiFX, approximately 95% of French loans are fixed rate and French banks are traditionally more conservative when it comes to lending money to both French and international buyers. As a result French economists are not predicting any big rises in interest rates. Overall, prices across France are not expected to rise significantly this year, nor are they likely to crash.
